Intro To Quilting 1 The Basics: Cutting and Block assembly

This is a multi-session class that will teach all of the basics of building a quilt from fabric selection to a completed quilt including machine quilting and binding.  This 12 class series will take you from the raw materials to the finished quilt in about 6 months, completing Intro to Quilting I.  
3-16-24: Ruler work, cutting fabric and organization
3-30-24: Making strips sets and cutting to size
4-13-24: Making and squaring a 9 patch block, learn nesting seams and pressing
4-27-24: Finishing the 9 patch blocks, Intro to half square triangles
5-11-24: Make half square triangles 
5-25-24: Putting together a Monkey Wrench Block and proper squaring technique
6-8-24: Putting the top together, matching and nesting seams, pressing
6-22-24: Cutting and adding borders
7-13-24: Marking the top, making the quilt sandwich, basting / pinning 
7-27-24: Machine quilting (you will need your walking foot for this class
8-10-24: Introduction to binding; cutting, pressing and bias seams
8-24-24: Finishing the quilt and graduation

Skill Level: Beginner
Skill Details: For this class, there are no skill required. The student will learn everything necessary throughout the class.

Requirements: Bring handouts and basic sewing equipment Sewing machine with 1/4" seam guide foot, walking foot, and foot without guide scissors, rotary cutter, small mat (if you own one), seam ripper, pins, needles, thread, fabric pens or chalk, pin cushion, and rulers/templates
Instructor: Sheri Hudson - Sheri's Originals
Instructor Bio: Sheri is the owner of Sew Squared. She is a lifelong crafter, sewist and quilter. She has been sewing since she was 5 years old and made her first quilt block at age 7. She has made everything from hand stitched doll clothes to clothes for herself and children, as well as Halloween costumes. She sewed for the Munford Band for over 12 years doing everything from basic alterations to making equipment covers. She has been quilting for about 30 years and has been teaching sewing and quilting for almost 10 years.
