
Intro To Quilting II: A Sampler Quilt

The 10 week Intro to Quilting II: A Sampler Quilt is the follow-up class to Intro To Quilting I: The basics class. While this class is geared toward students who have completed the Intro to Quilting I class with Sew Squared, any beginning quilting student who is comfortable with and knowledgeable of proper sewing machine use, use of basic quilting tools (rotary cutter, ruler use, pinning, proper squaring technique etc. would be capable of completing this class. This is not a class for the complete beginner who has never taken a quilting class.
This class will build on skills previously learned. The quilt will be made with 4 blocks. Two of the blocks will be a twist on the blocks in the first class along with the introduction of 2 new blocks.
Old skills: making and pressing strip sets, making and squaring half square triangles, nesting seams, squaring blocks, sewing blocks into rows, marking the quilt top, building a quilt sandwich, free motion quilting, making and adding binding to a quilt
New skills: snowballing, flying geese, sashing and corner sets.
Tools Required: 12-1/2" square, 4 - 1/2" square, 6-1/2' x 24-1/2" ruler, rotational cutting mat (optional), straight quilting pins, seam ripper, rotary cutter, scissors, tape measure, stylus, seam gauge, basting spray, quilting pins, quilt clips, marking pens or pencil, walking foot and 1/4" foot with guide - (this is all of the basic tools purchased during Intro I).
Fabric: for the class MUST be purchased from Sew Squared (registered students get 10% off fabric for the class)
Pattern and manual is included in the price of the class.
The class will meet every Saturday from 10:30am - 12:30pm, from June 13 - Aug 22, 2026. At the end of the 10 week class, students will have a completed throw size sampler quilt.

June 13: Review of 9 patch blocks and Introduction to Disappearing 9 Patch Block
June 20: Introduction to snowballing and making Bow Tie Blocks
June 27 Introduction to Flying Geese
July 11: Making Sawtooth Star Blocks
July 18: Making Around the World Block (a twist on the shoo fly block)
July 25: Making and adding sashing and corner set blocks
Aug 1: Finish sashing and adding borders, marking the top
Aug 8: Marking the top and building quilt sandwich
Aug 15: Free motion quilting
Aug 22: Adding binding
